The gardens are another expression of Lynn and Anisya's philosophy of sustainability and stewardship. Plants are combined in impressionistic compositions of color, foliage, texture and form. The plantings combine utility and artistry with plants that support the food programs as well as serving as habitat to a variety of insects, pollinators, butterflies and birds. The vegetables, herbs and fruits also express the uniqueness of the terroir and combine well with our estate wines to bring out their finest flavors. Additionally, each variety is specifically selected, through successive trials, for its ability to thrive in the estate's soils and microclimates.
The flower and vegetable gardens change dramatically through the seasons. In winter they are dominated by cool green foliage, with highlights blue purple and red from the kale and chard. In Spring, they explode with the brilliant hues of native wildflowers like California poppies and Clarkias. The spectacular summer borders are ablaze with every color, incorporating a range of native and non native varieties of flowers and edible plants such as pentstemon, lion's mane, verbena, biden, lavender and California fuchsia.
